1. Is natural gas available at my home?: Call 850-983-5434 or submit a service request form online.

2. How much does it cost to get new service?: The cost to install new gas service can vary depending on the distance between the connection and city service lines. (Gas installation may not be feasible if a considerable investment must be made to service your home or business.)

For residential service, a non-refundable deposit ranging from $100 to $500 is required when you request service installation. However, if you do connect and begin service, the deposit will be credited back to you on your initial bill.

For commercial service, a refundable deposit (minimum of $500) is required. This deposit amount is based on projected usage and is determined on a case-by-case basis. The homeowner or business owner is responsible for the full cost of plumbing their home or business for gas service, and this cost should be determined by a licensed plumber.

3. Is natural gas superior to other fuels?: Natural gas is an economical, environmentally friendly and efficient energy source. According to Chevron.com, natural gas is the cleanest-burning conventional fuel, producing lower levels of greenhouse gas emissions than heavier hydrocarbon fuels, such as coal and oil. In addition to being a financially and environment-savvy choice, the natural gas industry is extremely safe. This is largely due to stringent rules and regulations of many federal and state regulatory agencies. For leak detection, there is a product called mercaptan added to the natural gas to give it a distinctive sulfur or “rotten eggs” odor.

Open windows and doors
If possible, eliminate any source of ignition
Leave the area immediately. Do not smoke, turn off/on any switches or appliances, or use a phone or cell phone.
Go to a safe location such as a neighbor’s home and immediately call 911 or the Milton Police Department at 850-983-5420.

1. What can I do about speeding in my neighborhood?: The Milton Police Department invites requests for traffic enforcement, especially in residential areas. Simply call the main telephone number 850-983-5420 and report the problem. Once a complaint is received, officers are notified and assigned to monitor speeds in the affected area.

2. When and where can I get a copy of a police report?: The records division is located in the lobby of the police station at 5451 Alabama Street. You can normally obtain records Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.

How can I become a police officer?: We accept applications on a continual basis from individuals who hold a valid law enforcement certificate from the State of Florida, or from officers who hold a valid certificate from another state and are eligible to obtain Florida standards within 12 months. Once a need is determined an oral interview will be scheduled. After the completion of the oral interview an applicant may be selected to move onto the next phase. The next phase consists of a background investigation, computerized voice stress analysis, psychological assessment, drug screen and medical examination.

4. I received a traffic citation I do not agree with. What can I do about it?: Once a citation is written, it is forwarded to the court clerk next business day. No one in the police department, including the chief of police, is able to dismiss or withhold prosecution of a ticket. If you disagree with the ticket, you can call the Santa Rosa County Traffic Violations Bureau at 850-983-1009 and ask for instructions on your options.

5. My home was broken into and it took an officer 15 minutes to respond. Why so long?: Calls for service are prioritized according to severity. Incidents that have already occurred and that do not have a suspect on the scene receive a non-emergency response. Our response times are very good, but sometimes officers are not available to handle every call the minute it is received. If your call is an emergency, our officers will make every effort to respond in a timely fashion.

6. I saw a strange car in my neighborhood, but am unsure about calling the police when something like that happens.: The police are here to serve you, but we cannot be everywhere at once. If you suspect anything out of the ordinary, please call.

2. What do I do if I receive a notice?: All instructions are printed on the notice. Go to www.ViolationInfo.com and log on with the information provided on the notice. There you can view video of the incident and the images captured.

3. How much is the fine and what about my driving record?: Violations will be assessed a $158 statutory penalty and no points will be assessed.
If the fine is not paid in a timely fashion a "Uniform Traffic Citation" will be issued and increased penalties could be assessed including court costs.

4. What happens when you make a left or right hand turn at an intersection utilizing a red-light camera?: If the vehicle is within the intersection at the time the light turns red, you will not be issued a violation. Remember to drive carefully and watch for pedestrians and bicyclists.
